In the Japanese history, the period from 14000 BC to 300 BC, is called as the Jomon period which in their native language holds the meaning of ‘cord patterned’. The best of the Japanese artifacts come from this prehistoric period. The beautiful figurines that we do not get tired of praising are the making of this era itself. Here are 3 reasons why you should buy statues from this period:

1. The ancient Japanese figurines are called ‘dogu’. These figures were about one foot high. The influence of Korea and China can be seen in this art of the Japanese. There is a hint of versatility evident in the statuette made in this country. There are the simple figures, the colored ones, some based on the contemporary animated characters. The most famous being the Japanese dolls, which come as a bundle of fascination and fantasy to our eyes. These make a unique gift, and at times the most exotic souvenir. The other most intriguing works include the Japanese ceramic art and pottery. The men of true bravery, with pride and fame, called the samurai warriors, are the most enjoyed art pieces amongst the younger generation. At the same time we have the statues made out of straw and hay which are equally intriguing.

2. Every Japanese art holds a very special significance and is a symbol of something or the other. This is a very important aspect of the art here. For instance, the pottery or any clay dummy is theoretically considered talisman for good health and safe childbirth. These have been used as toys for children, sometimes according to the traditional rules, these are also used as offerings during a funeral or any other rituals performed.

3. A remarkable feature of the figurines is their shape. However ancient they might be, some of them have a reflection of modernity in the way they are made. We have the ceramic figure of a heart shaped face, some are made in such a way that they look like an astronaut or someone wearing a protective gear, the spirit of the dead ancestors are also made into a clay statue. Every part of the world holds some enchanting and distinguishing features whether historical or contemporary, and the figurines from Japan no doubt, attract most of our interest.
