The Characteristics of Egyptian Statues

Many people are amazed by the different characteristics of the Egyptian statues. But only a few really know what is behind those perfected statues. You have to remember that before an art is made, there are certain conditions and implementations that the artists must follow. For the Egyptian statues, they have strict rules for every artist to follow. The artists are ranked based on the actual implementation of the laws. In 300 years or so, the Egyptian art has evolved but not that much because of the laws.

The laws imply that a statue must no suggest any movement or emotion. There must be no facial expression. It must have large heads, faces have round plump, and set figures are heavy. The eyes of the statues must gaze straight and the hands are glued in their sides. For seated statues, the hand is placed on their knees. The legs must be close and feet parallel. The statues of men have darker texture than that of the women. The Pharaohs are represented usually standing. The left food must be advance. They are also depicted as they seat. When they seat, the statue must be seated on cubic block. The block represents the throne and most of all; they are very particular with the emphasis on symmetry.

If the Greeks gods and goddesses are nude, for the Egyptian statues nudity is only used for the statues of the children and servants. The materials used in the statue require various ornamental stones. Gold was also used as a statuary craft, masks, and sarcophagus of the gods and Pharaohs. The statues that are made from these materials are buried in the dry sand. Surprisingly, they survived the passing of time.

The statues of the gods require having their own house. It means eternity for them. The most sacred object in the temple is the cult statue. They are often raised in metal and housed in the inner sanctuary of the temple. The appearance of the gods was laid down strictly. For the Pharaohs, they symbolize divinity and eternal life. They are made to represent the Pharaohs and the queens.
