Top 3 Uses of Gun Safes

By

Keeping guns safe within the house is important. They should be out of reach for children and non-users, as even the slightest experimentation can result in grave injury. With a gun safe in your home, guns can safely be kept away from youth and thieves, too, apart from the other members of your house. Guns safes are the best option for weapons, but certain precautions regarding the location and safety options have to be taken into consideration.

•    Note the number of security features: guns aren’t a plaything, and you must ensure that the gun is kept away from prying hands. After you buy the gun, you’re bound to slack in price whereas the price of the safe is concerned. This isn’t the right attitude, as the gun safes must be worthy of the gun you buy in terms of the quality on protection on offer.  Safety-wise, combination locking systems are considered to be the best types of locks, as they have a complex number lock without entering which it cannot be unlocked.

•     There are various kinds of locking systems in use today: this includes the voice activation lock, through which only the owner can open the safe. Safes with biometric scanners are also available, as also other kinds of difficult coding locks. Even within the combination locks, there are enhanced features that can make a world of difference to the safety. The body of the gun safe is another point of consideration. If the thief can’t open the lock, he can always destroy the safe; in this case, you must check the toughness of the safe. It must also be able to survive extreme heat, and not break down if struck.

•    Where to put gun safes: gun safes should be ideally placed where only adults can reach them, such as in the bedroom or inside a wardrobe. Make sure that children are unaware of the location.

Since guns are made of metal, they must also be prevented from rusting, which decreases its performance. Dehumidifiers, when kept in gun safes, stop the accumulation of moisture. Dehumidifiers are portable, so the guns are safe from atmospheric damage wherever the safe and guns go.

These are so important! Can't believe this, but I was at a friend's house recently who has a young child, yet keeps a gun under the sofa in their living room! Unbelievable. Lock 'em up, folks!

Scary comment from TroyM. On other suggestion when considering a gun safe is to be sure you are getting a safe that is DOJ (Department of Justice) approved...at a minimum. Check any safe you are considering to see if it is third party tested for burglary and if desired, fire resistance. Look for DOJ or RSC burglar ratings or a fire rating from a company like U.L., Mercury or ETL.
